Students find their way to the Writing Center for many different reasons. Are you just getting started on an assignment or are you ready to tackle the mysteries of the semi-colon? Are you trying to prepare for a writing assessment exam or begin a research project using the library's assignment calculator? Our University Writing Center can assist you with some of the specific writing tasks that you may encounter here at ASU. Find out more about how we can help below:

Preparing to take the College of Business Basic Skills Proficiency exam?

Early preparation is the key to success for this test. Come into the Writing Center to get started on a personalized plan to practice for the upcoming test.

We are available to help you prepare for taking this one-hour timed writing exam for admission into the ASU Walker College of Business. Since you can only take this exam TWICE to satisfy the terms of admission, we recommend coming to the Writing Center before your first attempt so that you are better prepared for what to expect. If you are retaking the exam, we suggest that you schedule a series of one-hour, one-on-one sessions throughout the semester before your scheduled exam. Click here for more information from the College of Business about this exam, testing dates, and scoring criteria.

>>Work in focused sessions organized around your writing, during which we will help you develop skills related to content, organization, and mechanics.
>>
Use practice prompts to generate new essays to use in your sessions.
>>Sign-up for a group workshop/information session offered in-advance of testing dates. No group workshop is scheduled at this time: please check back or call to let us know if you are interested in a workshop.

(Re)Taking the PRAXIS exam?

Consultants at the center can help you prepare for taking the written essay and/or the multiple-choice writing sections of the PRAXIS. For best results, we highly recommend that you schedule a series of one-hour, one-on-one sessions over the course of 1-3 months (in advance of your scheduled exam). When you first come into the Writing Center, your consultant will talk with you about creating the most appropriate plan for your goals.

>>Use our practice books to assess what aspects of your writing are weakest and work closely with a consultant to focus on improving those skills.
>>Complete take home practice tests and review responses with consultants in one-on-one sessions tailored to your needs.
>>Write 1/2 hour practice essays using prompts we provide and then work with a consultant to review the essay, identify areas for improvement, and learn about adapting your writing process to a timed exam.
